简介叶林教授1987年与北京航空航天大学获博士学位,现为悉尼大学全职教授。发表论文300余篇,2005年当选为Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE)。

 

讲座题目Development of Novel Fabrics with Asymmetric Liquid Transport Properties

This presentation highlights some recent work on development of novel fabrics with asymmetric liquid transport properties, addressing a few aspects on dynamics of capillary flow through different media such as porous structures and tree-like networks, including 1) capillary penetration in multi-section tubes or porous layers, 2) capillary flow in the optimized tree networks, and 3) capillary rise restricted by gravity. The effect of structures and networks (such as pore size, porosity, and incline angle) on capillary flow is quantitatively analyzed using mechanistic models, and optimal parameters are obtained to facilitate the fastest flow.

It is found that liquids can pass through systems more readily in one direction than the other, and the capillary time for a negative gradient of cross-sectional width is clearly smaller than that for a positive gradient. It also shows that the capillary flow in the optimized tree networks is faster than in traditional parallel tube nets under fixed constraints. Experiments were conducted to examine the model of time-dependent capillary rise in porous path with different incline angles, and it demonstrates the minimum time required for the liquid to advance a fixed height is attributed to the dynamic competition between capillary pressure, gravity and viscous effect, while the three of which have different sensitivity to local microstructures of the porous system.
